Why set up payment methods before sending reminders?
When members receive a reminder and open their portal link, they’ll see what they owe — but they also need to know how to pay you.
❌ Without payment methods configured
Members see their balance but no way to pay. They’ll have to text or email you to ask how to send money.
✅ With payment methods configured
Members see clear buttons: “Pay with Venmo,” “Pay with Zelle,” or “Pay Now” (for cards). One tap, done.
💡 Pro tip: Set up payment methods before you add members or create dues. That way, the first reminder you send will already have everything your members need to pay.
Option 1: Venmo
Venmo is one of the most popular peer-to-peer payment apps in the US. If your members are millennials or Gen Z, most already have it on their phone.
Go to Settings → Payment Info
From your team page, click Settings, then scroll to the Payment Info section.
Enter your Venmo username
Type your Venmo username (e.g., @john-smith). This is what members will see when they tap “Pay with Venmo.”
Save and you’re done
Members will now see a “Pay with Venmo” button in their portal with your username. They tap it, open Venmo, and send you money directly.
What happens when members pay with Venmo?
The money goes directly from their Venmo account to yours — GetDues never touches it. You’ll need to manually mark the payment as received in GetDues to update their balance.
Option 2: Zelle
Zelle is built into most major US banks. It’s fast, free, and popular with parents who may not use Venmo.
Go to Settings → Payment Info
From your team page, click Settings, then scroll to the Payment Info section.
Enter your Zelle email or phone number
Enter the email address or phone number you’ve registered with Zelle in your bank’s app.
Save and you’re done
Members will see a “Pay with Zelle” section in their portal showing your email or phone number. They open Zelle in their bank app and send you money.
What happens when members pay with Zelle?
Zelle transfers money instantly between bank accounts. You’ll see the funds in your bank account right away (usually within minutes). You’ll need to manually mark the payment as received in GetDues.
Option 3: Cash App
Cash App is popular with younger users and widely used for peer-to-peer payments.
Go to Settings → Payment Info
From your team page, click Settings, then scroll to the Payment Info section.
Enter your $cashtag
In the Cash App field, type your $cashtag without the leading $ (e.g., johnsmith). This is what members will use to send you money.
Save and you’re done
Members will see a “Pay with Cash App” button in their portal that opens Cash App with your $cashtag and the amount they owe pre-filled. They confirm and send you money directly.

Option 4: PayPal
PayPal is one of the most widely recognized payment apps and works well for members who already have a PayPal account.
Go to Settings → Payment Info
From your team page, click Settings, then scroll to the Payment Info section.
Enter your PayPal email
Type the email address tied to your PayPal account. You can also add an optional PayPal.me username (e.g., paypal.me/johnsmith) so members get a one-tap payment link.
Save and you’re done
Members will now see a “Pay with PayPal” option in their portal with your PayPal email (or PayPal.me link). They tap it, open PayPal, and send you money directly.

Option 5: Stripe (Online Card & ACH Bank Transfer Payments)
Stripe is the only option that lets members pay with credit or debit cards or ACH bank transfer directly in the portal — no external app required. Available for all Pro teams.
- Members can pay with any credit or debit card, or link their bank account for ACH transfer
- Payments are recorded automatically — no manual tracking needed
- Funds go directly to your bank account via Stripe — GetDues never holds your money
- Stripe’s standard fee applies: 2.9% + 30¢ for card payments, 0.8% capped at $5 for ACH — no GetDues markup
- ACH payments typically take 4-5 business days to clear; card payments are instant
Stripe setup takes about 5 minutes and requires identity verification (name, DOB, SSN, bank account). See our full Stripe setup guide for step-by-step instructions.

| Venmo | Free | Instant | 1 min | Manual (opens app) |
| Zelle | Free | Instant | 1 min | Manual (opens app) |
| Cash App | Free | Instant | 1 min | Manual (opens app) |
| PayPal | Free | Instant | 1 min | Manual (opens app/site) |
| Stripe (Cards) | 2.9% + 30¢ | Instant | ~5 min | Automatic (in portal) |
| Stripe (ACH) | 0.8% (max $5) | 3-5 business days | ~5 min | Automatic (in portal) |
Recommended setup for maximum flexibility
We recommend setting up at least one free option (Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or PayPal) plus Stripe:
- Free option: Most members will use this — instant, no fees, familiar apps they already have.
- Stripe: For members who prefer to pay with a card (or don’t have Venmo/Zelle). Also auto-records payments, saving you time.
💡 Example: A typical youth sports team might set up Venmo (for parents who use it) + Zelle (for parents who bank with Chase/BoA) + Stripe (for everyone else, plus automatic tracking). This covers 95% of all scenarios.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a payment show as pending?
If a member pays using ACH (bank transfer) through Stripe, the payment will show as “pending” while their bank processes the transfer. This typically takes 4-5 business days. Once the bank confirms the transfer, the payment status will automatically update to “completed.” Card payments (credit/debit) are marked as “completed” immediately.
